Why do some people believe climate change is a hoax?
There are tonnes and tonnes of evidence to back it up and we know the congress are hiding it because a lot are paid off by oil companies. Even the news and media has shunned light upon some of its impacts that have already happened like in California and in middle eastern countries. If it was fake wouldn't the everyone stop because the revenue from fossil fuel is higher than anything else. Why would anyone create a hoax like this? And why don't people do their own research instead of being brainwashed by their government?

Frankly because many people simply have learned so much utter nonsense from years of watching stuff like Fox News or reading Breitbart that they're completely clueless about what's real and what isn't.
Look at the people that elected Donald Trump, there are many of them that watched his press conference yesterday and thought he did a great job, despite the fact that he told many obvious, blatant lies--and was even called out on it before the conference was over.
Take, for example, his electoral college win, which he talks incessantly about because he thinks it gives his presidency some legitimacy. Trump said
"We got 306 because people came out and voted like they've never seen before so that's the way it goes. I guess it was the biggest electoral college win since Ronald Reagan."
Of course, this is complete nonsense--you only have to go back to Obama to find someone that won more electoral college votes. Later he tried to claim he was talking only about Republicans, but that STILL wasn't true.
That was an obvious lie, but I have no doubt that many Trump supporters will insist that what he said was true, and it's only the "Mainstream Media" (that is, the media that relies on facts) that says otherwise. You had the same crazy nonsense with the inauguration crowds. The explanation of why Flynn got fired makes no sense, if he were being honest, he would have just said "I fired him because he got caught, if he hadn't been caught he'd still be the N.S.A.
The point is that when people can't even listen to what are very obvious lies and understand that they are lies, how do you expect these people to figure out that climate change is NOT a hoax when they're insane authority figures (such as Trump) tell them it? These people have lost whatever abilities they had to understand and assess the validity of things that are being said.
It's very sad that there's so many people like this, but they exist all over. The same sorts of people became the Nazis in Germany, or ISIS in the middle east.

climate change has never been thought of as a hoax , most people understand that the climate is always changing ,and that every animal and plant effects it to a degree.
the hoax is the assumption is that you can stop it by throwing money at certain persons who promise to fix it

Because a state of denial is more psychologically comforting than dwelling upon the possibility of impending oblivion?

The people who say it's real and a threat to civilization as we know it, then turn around and say we don't support nuclear power because it is not safe. If this threat to civilization as we know it still leads you to the same policies you were supporting before, then it is likely just a convenient excuse to push your religious environmental agenda.

Its not climate change that's the hoax its the free market, these people deny it because they think it interrupts the holy free-market handed down to us by Jesus but the fossil fuel industry is rife with government subsidies, in fact its how most of these fuels got off the ground in the first place.

The evidence is massive and overwhelming, and for many decades has been been accepted by nearly every scientist who has been working in the field. But the denial movement is strong. They work off of ignorance and fear.

Well what is it? Are the tons of evidence or is Congress hiding it? I guess you are privy to all the secret evidence that got past Congress. The climate changes and always has. Blaming any change on humans is a new phenomena.
It is easy to get caught in conspiratorial thinking. It is harder to actually research something for yourself. Instead of believing everything you hear in the mainstream media, or leftist blogs, you ought to learn the science. I live in California. I assume you are blaming the rain on our CO2. I assume you probably were just as willing to blame to drought last year on our CO2. It is easy to believe that things that are happening now are different from the past. In fact, there have been droughts and flooding for millions of years before humans existed.

because the proponents of climate change keep getting caught fudging the data to fit their belief -- that's why
