There is definitely an advantage to learning on acoustic. I started on electric because I wanted to play rock, and I wanted effects and amps and all the cool gadgets. After playing electric for several years I started giving acoustic a try. I couldn't believe how sloppy I was with my open chords. Even playing clean on electric, you can still cover up some mistakes I think, but honestly, how many newer players play clean anyway? We're going to have distortion and probably some reverb, delay, etc.

When I started picking up acoustic I realized the bad habits I had formed over the years and relearning is harder than learning correctly the first time. So that's my .02

I Highly recommend learning the acoustic guitar first.

But, if you like Alot more interested in electric then there is no problem with starting electric.
