I say yes, stop at the Season 1 Finale, Season 1 is a great story, it captures all the book-story lines, it's a great ride through this mystery.
Season 2 does all the things you don't want to see, it basically poorly repeats season 1, and focuses on all the wrong characters(in a terrible manner), it's incredibly frustrating.

At first, I have a same thought as you.
But, against my bad expectation, season 2 was enough enjoyable to Me👀.
