Should any math above Algebra 2 be optional? After a survey I took on random individuals in a public place, 2/20 said they use trig and abov?

Math teaches us to think and solve problems. It most certainly should NOT be made optional.

Ask someone the same question about other subjects:
Do we use U.S. History on a daily basis?
Do we use Biology on a daily basis?
Do we use Literature on a daily basis?
Do we use Art on a daily basis?
If you want to argue it that way, then we should probably stop teaching beyond the basics of Reading, Writing and Arithmetic. We can probably all stop studying in 6th grade.
But I argue that it is our knowledge of higher level material that makes us all more well rounded and educated individuals. It's the learning or high level topics that expand our ability to handle tougher problems, to reason, etc.
We can make it optional, but I think we do a disservice to our populace if we make all tougher subjects "optional" just because we don't see a need for them on a daily basis.
