Why do people need to come out as gay but not straight?

I find it mean. You have to come out if your gay/bi/ lesbian/ etc but it you are straight you don't have to deal with that. Its just as normal and everything. So why dies society feel that coming out is something only part of the world has to deal with

Because being straight is normal. Homosexuality is a mental illness.

"Straight" is the exchange of one mother-figure for another.

    Mother-figures are protective.

"Gay" is a way-station on the path to straight.

Gays are willing to put up with more disincentives.

Because the majory of the population is straight, most people assume that you are straight unless you say something. No, it's not fair, but you can't expect society to change overnight. We have to keep working to spread acceptance of LGBT people and make it so they don't have to deal with all of the pressure of coming out.

Because most people are assumed to be straight, so gay people "come out" so other gay people will know them and straight people wont mistake the gay people for being straight.
