Creationists (those who reject evolution): Can you demonstrate that you actually understand what the scientific theory suggests?

Rejection of evolution is relatively common, but those who reject it rarely (if ever) show that they understand what they are rejecting.

Surely some of you can show that you understand what evolutionary theory genuinely suggests happens?

Update:

Those of you who accept evolution: Please refrain from posting insults when none have been targeted towards you.

By all means criticise answers if you want to, but if the post is polite, criticise it politely.

Thanks.

Update 2:

Two creationists have now provided largely accurate, but extremely general, short overviews of evolution, but these do not demonstrate any understanding. Demonstrating understanding requires going into at least some detail regarding the mechanisms (e.g. how do organisms change and diversify).

More detail is needed - but if a creationist does demonstrate understanding of evolutionary theory (even though they reject it) I will award them 'best answer'.

Update 3:

If I was asked to demonstrate that I understand the Bible and simply said:

"It's a collection of stories about how the universe, Earth, and life was created by God and the events that followed including how humans became sinful, and how they can obtain salvation."

Would that show understanding of the Bible? I doubt that any Christians would think that it did (it certainly doesn't show enough of an understanding to provide a good argument against the stories).

I have yet to see a creationist accurately define science. Let alone can they argue against scientific facts like evolution. They don't even know what science is. If any creationist can accurately explain science to me I will convert to Christianity.

    The [neo-]darwinian theory of evolution is that;

Life on earth evolved gradually beginning with one primitive species—perhaps a self-replicating molecule—that lived more than 3.5 billion years ago; it then branched out over time, throwing off many new and diverse species; and the mechanism for most (but not all) of evolutionary change is natural selection.

How can something that never happened have a valid scientific theory ???

Evolution is not a science, but is a religion.

Science, of course, involves observation, using on or more of our five senses (taste, sight, smell, hearing touch) to gain knowledge about the world, and being able to repeat the observation.

No living scientist was there to observe the first life forming in some primeval sea.

No living scientist was there to observe the “big bang” some billions of years ago.

No living scientist was there to observe the supposed formation of the earth.

No scientist was there, no human witness was there to see these events occurring.

And they certainly cannot be repeated today.

All the evidence a scientist has exists only in the present. The average person (including students) are not taught that scientists have only the present and cannot deal directly with the past.

Evolution is a belief system about the past based on the words of men who were not there, but who are trying to explain how all the evidence of the present (that is fossils, animals, plants etc.) originated.

Webster’s Dictionary defines religion as follows: “Cause, principle or system of beliefs held to with ardour and faith.” Surely this is an apt description of evolution.

    Evolution is a belief system – A RELIGION !

In a nutshell, the Macroevolutionary theory suggests that all life came from a single called organism that gave us all of the things we have today and everything that we have in the past.

If you'd like to talk to me about this and exchange thiughts I'd be more then happy to in the comments. But only if we keep it civil!!

"It would be so nice if those who oppose evolution would take a tiny bit of trouble to learn the merest rudiments of what it is they are opposing."

    -- Richard Dawkins

Science deniers deny basic scientific facts like evolution because they go out of their way to know nothing. Their other problem is extreme stupidity.

Do they ever wonder why the world's biologists have accepted evolution as fact for more than a century? No because religious brainwashing sucked out all the curiosity they were born with.

They understand what it suggests and call it fake.

I don't think evolution is an important subject. Think about it, what difference does it make if evolution is true? Are you going to evolve, I know it doesn't work that way, but what's the big deal? It's basically meaningless. IT has nothing to do with anything, not anything important.
