Do suicides go to hell?

I came back from a funeral last week and I keep remembering how the preacher told his auntie he was in hell for being gay and hanging himself but I can't come to terms with believing it???

Suicide is sin. The Catholic Church still teaches that there is a hell, but leaves it to God to decide who should go there.

There there is a passage in the bible that makes complete sense. It says the wages of sin is death. People who sin already feel guilty so they end up dying of guilt. He was a homosexual and was sinning before he died. I personally know of a homosexual who also died of suicide. Homosexual or not suicidal people generally lose hope in themselves and God. What do you think the proper punishment is ?
