because a woman with children claims her exemption and all of the children, a married couple without children claim only two exemptions, this means more of their income is taxable, she has more to reduce her AGI this reducing her income tax liability, in addition she is probably eligible for EIC when the married couple may not be

A man with the same number of children and the same income as a woman with the same number of children and same income would get THE SAME tax breaks.

The tax code doesn't consider gender.

People without dependents also don't have the EXPENSE of caring for those dependents and get fewer tax breaks than someone trying to support their children.

Because the tax code gives a break to parents with kids.

Your question is as valid as asking why the sky is green, or why rocks float. Its based on a false assumption.

Women don't get anything special in the tax code. Parents get various tax benefits to help offset the cost of raising children. Qualifying for those benefits is based on things such as the child's residency, income, support provided, etc, but never based on the parent's gender.

Those benefits are usually the most lucrative for low income families because of the earned income credit, and often result in big tax refunds.

Personally I'd rather see a low income family do what they can to earn their own way and get a few thousand dollars in tax credits then see them give up and collect tens of thousands of dollars worth of public assistance.

That should be very self explanatory -- single parent of either gender qualifies.

EIC is not just for WOMEN with kids, also for single custodiql fathers, or couples with kids. People without kids get EIC also, but amounts and income limits are much lower. Congress decided to give EIC to help low income worker and to encourage them to wowrk rather than just collecting welfare.

Because they need money to provide for their children.

Either could get more of a refund. You don't get taxes, you pay them.

The main reason would be because children's personal exemption lowers taxable income. They may also get some EIC or ACTC.
