I'll soon undergo ECT, a medical procedure for depression. It involves anesthesia. I'm scared I'll wake up in Hell. Please see details?

Besides the fact that I'm already scared of Hell, it bothers me immensely that the procedure is called ECT. That acronym is the same one that philosophers use to describe Hell: Eternal Conscious Torment.

I don't want to go to Hell, but I hate God. I can't help it. If I beg him to save me, will he listen? I don't have time to learn how to love him, even if I thought that were possible. And if I ask him to help me love him, he'll know that it's not because I actually want to love him, but only because I'm terrified of Hell.

I repent from everything, but I have to admit, it's only because I don't want to go to Hell. I honestly don't feel bad about lust or coveting. I do feel bad about some things I've done in the past, but I honestly don't agree with God about what's good and bad. I can only defer to his judgment, and it's only because I don't want to go to Hell.

If you atheists out there have any words of comfort, please do weigh in. I'm scared.

  • You lucky dog. Not only are you not going to wake up in hell. You are going to wake up in heaven. I have read a lot about this procedure for over the last forty years. They know what they are doing. Apparently our brains can create a bad circuit in childhood, for any of a number of reasons, and it will then only get worse. This procedure is like a restart except it will reset that short circuit. It is the closest thing to becoming young again.

There are also people, like me, who are into a different kind of electric brain stimulation, tDCS. Read up on that. The only drawback is that you may not feel like wasting time here with us anymore. If that happens I wish you the best. Enjoy

This is a fine question, very believable, except that I've seen it before. Not often, not recently, but this wasn't my first time reading it.

There is always hope in Jesus Christ. He is kind, gracious, and willing to forgive for all who come to Him in truth without pretense.

    Rom 3:23

23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,

    And...

    Rom 6:23

23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

    Rom 5:8

8 But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

    To receive God's free gift....

    Rom 10:9-11

9 that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.

10 For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

11 For the Scripture says, “Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame.”

    Pray this...

Father, I accept your gift of forgiveness for all my sins because of what Jesus has done for me.

Help me in my time of need and show me the way I should go.

I ask in Jesus' name. Amen

You are no longer a slave to fear, but are a child of God. Colossians 1:13

13 He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love,

    2 Corinthians 5:17

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.

Depends on whether you want to hear Bible Truth or keep your pagan superstitions? Choose one.

The Bible rejects the idea of hellfire torment. For one, what do you need to FEEL anything? A working brain and nervous system. What foes Psalms 146:4 & Ecclesiastes 9:5, 10 say about the abilities of the dead? They have NONE!

How did Jesus, the Great Teacher, explain death? John 11:11, "sleep". Are you generally aware of anything in sleep? No!

See what Rev. 20:13-14 explains about hell. #1/ There is a RELEASE from hell & death. After a time, there is a Judgement. #2. Many are found worthy of eternal life. Meaning GOOD PEOPLE go to hell too. #3. Death and Hell are totally destroyed. #4. Most importantly is the last sentence of 14: " This MEANS the second death, the lake of fire". No literal fire. Only destruction.

Even IF you die, there is only sleep, no torture. You also have the chance of resurrection, back to life reaching human perfection.

    Good health to you!

Electro-conclusive therapy has been used for many years. I had one course of treatment...I couldn't remember anything afterwards...my name, family....it was horrible...but after three sessions my severe depression began to lift. Nobody knows how it works and it doesn't work for everyone. My treatment was 40 years ago, so I'm assuming it has been refined.

I never woke up in hell...Just confused.

    Good luck.

If you have made up your mind that you hate God, why do you now turn to Him because you are afraid of death? I suggest you rethink this by reading the Holy Bible (The New Testament book of John) to learn who God really is and how much he loves you. Yes, God is always ready to accept one more person who will humbly come to Him and repent, accept Jesus as God's Son who gave his life for us. We must commit to serve Him all of our lives going forward. I suggest you pray (only if you are honest) and ask God for His help in understanding Him.

Drugs man, best nap of my life. Hell is when you wake up and realize they won't let you have a cigarette or coffee.

If you continue to hate your Creator you will continue to hate the life He gave you so you could live with Him.

If you were an atheist, you would not be worried, and if you are a christian, you tell nothing but lies.
