I am looking for the serial number of an item that has been reported as stolen to the authorities.?

The reason I want this is I would like to use the number on one of these websites that says they have records for serial numbers of items that are stolen. If I type the number in to their website and they have no record of the item than i know that the website is probably worthless. It would probably be most useful if the number is from a vehicle or firearm as I have heard numbers of other items are not reported.

I can tell you now the unidentified website is WORTHLESS. 99% of everything with a serial number that is stolen NEVER has the serial number reported. If the ownership of the item isn't recorded in PUBLIC RECORDS, it is unlikely the owner has any idea what the serial number is, for the SAME reason you have to ask where to find it.
