Chemistry Hess's Law lab question grade 12!!?
Why would it not have been possible to use 1.5 g of Mg (when the procedure called for 0.5 g) with the stated procedure (which instructs to neutralize products with 100 mL of NaOH)? Given the reaction: Mg(s) + 2HCl(aq) ---> H2(g) + MgCl2(aq), where 0.5 g of Mg(s) reacts with 100 g of HCl(aq).

Presumably because 100 mL of NaOH would not have been enough to complete the neutralization.
