Is it possible for my brother to send his tax return to my bank account without his name being on my bank account?
My brother mailed his tax return in and he got a letter back stating that he forgot to sign it and therefore he can't get it until it's signed and sent back in. To cut down the long wait for him to get it back, I volunteered to put my bank information on there so that instead of him waiting for it to mailed back, it would just post in my account. He has second thoughts about it because he's not on my account and he don't want it to not go through then he have to wait again for them to mail it back. Do he have to be on my bank account in order for his money to go into it? Thanks in advance for your answers.

no, if his name is not on the account the bank cannot take a direct deposit of a refund check

No, his refund will not be deposited to your account as his name and SSN are not on your account. The bank will reject the deposit and return it to the Treasury. He will receive a paper check in the mail 6 to 8 weeks after the deposit is rejected by your bank.

The wait time is for processing the return, not issuing the refund. Issuing a paper check takes an extra week over an electronic transfer. Also as stated by others, the receiving bank will reject a deposit when the payee is not on the account. The deposit then bounces back and a paper check is issued.

Normally, they will automatically reject to an account without his name on it.

Yes, the name must be on the account. If the name doesn't match the name(s) on the bank account, the bank normally won't or can't accept it. This is to prevent income tax fraud. It's all done by electronic transfer which makes it easier to verify the names & account numbers. The bank doesn't want to be responsible for someone else's income tax being deposited into your account, whether you authorized it or not.
