what is the difference between an anti depressant and an anti psycotic medication?

    Anti psychotic meds are those with schizophrenia, psychosis, bipolar, or someone with paranoia

    Antidepressants work to help balance certain neurotransmitters believed to be "out of balance" in people who suffer from depression. The most common mechanism is SSRIs-selectiive seratonin reuptake inhibitors. They allow the brain to "build up" seratonin...believed to be low on people that have depression.

    Antipsychotic meds try to inhibit the symptoms people suffering from psychosis. They will try to treat hallucinations and erratic behaviors. They are not cures but rather symptom treatments

    One treats depression, the other treats psychosis.

    They treat depression and psychosis, which are not the same. Psychosis is being out of touch with reality
