Nazi Germany military branches and US military branches comparison?
I was doing research on each military branch of nazi germany and america today, and i was wondering if this matched each branch correctly. As i am aware, the werhmacht had 3 branches, which was the heer, kreigsmarine, and luftwaffle. So equating that to the U.S. today would be
Heer=U.S. Army (the ground force)
Kreigsmarine=U.s. navy (the ocean force)
Luftwaffle= u.s. Air Force (fight in air)
Waffen SS= marine corps (both are considered the countries most prideful/warriorlike)
Is this an accurate evaluation between military branches?
Is the waffen SS/Marine equal each other?
Which would you consider the most important for projecting power?

The Waffen SS definitely is not equal to the USMC. The USMC are basically the infantry of the sea. They aren't designed to fight land wars, although that's what they have been forced to do for the last few decades. Their real purpose is to help the Navy invade and capture a beach, then they return to the ships and find a new beach to invade like they did in the Pacific during WWII, while the Army is used for the main land war (like in Germany in WWII).
The Waffen SS would be more equivalent to the US Army Rangers and US Army Special Forces. They are designed to fight on land, and are an elite type of Infantry. The SS was also used to convert local civilians into soldiers, just like Army Special Forces does by teaching locals in other countries how to fight and defend themselves.
I am talking about actual combat capabilities only of course, not the whole "kill all jews" insanity the SS believed in, which obviously is not what the Rangers and Special Forces believe.

Waffen-SS has no real equivalent to any US military branch, considering it's political background.
If the Republican Party under Trump were to form some sort of paramilitary organization and integrate it as part of the US military, then that would be rather close equivalent.
Moreover the US Marine Corps's primary purpose is to serve (originally) as combat infantry for the Navy and amphibious contexts; they've since evolved to perform numerous other objectives more similar to certain Army and Air Force actions like seizing ground from sea or air.
Now from a visionary standpoint the Waffen-SS was to ultimately replace the German armed forces, as well as absorb much of the security apparatus of the state; a modern equivalent is if president Trump amalgamates all of the US's police, fire fighter, border patrol, the CIA Secret Service etc.into one umbrella group, then that's what you'd call an American version of the SS.

The Waffen SS were murdering scum. They were rightfully summarily executed by Russian and American Soldier's for Warcrimes committed to compare them to the USMC is a goddamn insult.
Thumb down all you want The Malmedy Massacre is all the proof you need about the SS.

Eventually I think Trump's private security will prove to be similar to the roots of the Nazi SS.
