Higher consciousness as in heightened awareness? It could if you train it that way but it certainly is not the only way to achieve that. I think there are much better ways to do that. Doing Qi Gong only to achieve heightened awareness seems to be the roundabout way. The military does achieves this goal in their soldiers in record time. Ask any vet who has spent time on the front line about heightened awareness for his survival.
