How can I stop my indicator stalk turning off automatically?
I have never understood why indicator stalks go into neutral automatically. It often does it at the wrong time so I have to keep constantly pulling it again and again whilst also turning the wheel. It s very frustrating and irritating.
I want to be able to turn it off when I say so. Is this possible?
Thank you.
P.S. It s not a fault with my car. Every car does it.

It's broken and needs replacement. These days that can be expensive and a huge pain. Watch out you don't pop the airbag. That thing can kill you.

I think you have a problem if you can't use the indicator. In most cases you could take the trip off the column or put it on the wrong way and the indicators will never cancel I took a steering wheel off and turned the trip around the other day on a young blokes car that put a sports wheel on his car and lost the self cancelling indicators forget to turn them off might get you a fine and will fail a roadworthy inspection.

My first car didn't have an "indicator stalk". Turn signals were controlled by a three position toggle switch on the dash board. If you didn't remember to turn the flashers off, they would run forever.

If your state requires annual safety inspections it will fail if the turn signal switch doesn't work properly.

I'll give you the one from my 1987 D150 pickup. When it cancels a left turn it sometimes slides into showing a right turn. The additional problem will help you forget about your original complaint.
