Whether it's homophobic really depends on it's usage, Stephen Colbert was being very political in its usage, it wasn't used as a derogatory slur towards the lgbt it was aimed at two political leaders with a questionable political relationship with accusations of one leader buying the American election in collusion with the other leader, although the term certainly can have a homophobic meaning the term can also have hetrosexaul phobic ussage too.

Stephen Colbert's usage if the term was questable, but he is not a homophobic person so I do not believe that was his intent, his intent seemed very clear dissing two world leaders.

It's not.

The people who are complaining are right-wing nut jobs/Trump supporters.
