Should Maria Sharapova get wildcards to Grand Slam events since she is returning from an 18-month doping suspension?

I think no. And that she should work on qualifying for the majors at least.

Wild cards have been awarded to players with much less success than Sharapova has on her record.

As I recall, Bjorn Borg was quite upset that the he was being forced to play in the quallies because he had been inactive for a while. Borg had a lot more big wins than Maria has. Wasn't long before he said goodbye to pro tennis.

If, like many tennis fans, you really don't like Maria's on-court behavior, I suggest you make an effort to get the ITF to write an anti-screaming rule into the official ITF Rules of Tennis. IMHO, this should have been done about 30-35 years ago.

Sharapova's ban is over, finished: I don't get the hard-to-understand part of this concept. As a past GS singles champion, she has the right to receive an unlimited number of wild cards.

There's no difference when it comes to majors.

They want to give her a wild card for the main draw? Ok.

They don't? Ok.

Giving her a WC for the qualifying draw? Inexcusable and embarrassing.

The RULE (not my or anyone else's opinion) is a GS winner has the right to receive an unlimited number of wild cards: this doesn't mean that she must be given a WC but, as I wrote, that the tournaments' organizers can decide to give or NOT to give her a WC.

My OPINION is that a WC for the qualifiers is an embarrassing compromise. You want Masha to play at your tournament? You give her a WC for the MD. You think it's not right because of the ban? You DON'T give it to her.

I don't like Sharapova and her grunts but I really can't stand all these players (Mladenovic, Bouchard...) biting the hand that feeds them when it's undeniably that they enormously benefit of her playing. Let's ask Mladenovic's sponsors if they would have preferred a Stuttgart semifinal versus Kontaveit or Makarova instead of Masha.
