I need to travel out of China with more cash than is permitted. My question, is, do they actually count the money that is in your wallet?

    No, but there's such a thing as a spot check. Chances are good that you won't have the bad luck to be selected for a random search.

    They have dogs trained to sniff out money. You will get caught, make no mistake about that.

    You do realize your wallet goes through the scanner at the airport, don't you? They're going to figure it out when they see how thick your wallet is.

    Smuggling money ! You bet they will count it and you bet they will confiscate it and you bet you will be arrested
