    I don't think they know or need to know that sex makes babies, only that it feels good.

    Among species that pair bond, it means same sex pair bondings. Among species that don't it means a clear or absolute preference for same sex intimacy. Same as it does for humans.

    Animals are not homosexual. Only humans are.
