Suggestions on filling in a depression in my yard?

I own a house in Northern Virginia with a yard of about 1/5 acre. I've noticed a couple of depressions or dips in the ground. The ground drops down 2 to 5 inches. The grass is still growing. The previous owner told me about a mole years ago in that part of the yard, so I wonder if the tunnels are collapsing.

I tried to fill in one last year by cutting a flap in the grass and inserting top soil. The grass is only now starting to grow back.

Does anyone have an idea how I can both level the ground and keep my grass? Thanks!

Cut the top couple inches (below grass root) out, add more soil, then transplant grass back on top.

Depression is a serious condition which should not be left untreated. A doctor should assess the depths of your depressions, and he will tell you what is the best approach to cure them.
