When released, thalidomide was considered to be a wonder drug. Supposedly it wasn't known how serious the consequences would be. Once reports start coming in about birth defects, then a cause has to be established. It's all well and good to say someone must take responsibility, but if the manufacturer conducted extensive trails and found nothing untoward before release, then it's not really fair for us to condemn them for unexpected effects.

They followed the FDA's guidelines and mandatory research, so the regulatory body is possibly culpable too, yet no one is pointing the finger at them.

    Ethically speaking they deserve it.
