Which island? We are looking at one of the Hawaiian Islands for a vacation for our 40th wedding anniversary.?

Update:

We are both in our early 60's and enjoy the water,( husband loves body surfing, I just like to wade). We are healthy and active adults and will be spending a week, when we go. Would love suggestions as to which island would be best for warm water, body surfing, and food (love seafood). We will probably rent an apartment or condo through VRBO - so will have access to cooking stuff and I love to cook. Traveling in early September. Locals, where do you recommend?

Depends on what you want to do-- Kauai is the island you see in all the movies- dense jungles -- like Jurassic Park for example. Oahu is beautiful but is heavily visited, and has the big city of Honolulu. Maui has no large city, mainly resort areas and smaller towns with some beautiful scenery and a volcano you can drive up to the top of. The Big Island is way bigger and has lots to see- huge sweeping vistas and two huge volcanoes- plus the erupting volcano to see. If you are interested in the volcanic stuff, then certainly go there. We did Maui and the Big Island for our 25th, and loved both but like the Big Island beetter, so when we went back for our second trip we spent it all on the Big Island. Our latest trip was Maui again for a wedding there, but we found some great snorkeling areas that were as good if not better than the Big Island.

The state's official tourism website is gohawaii.com. You can browse all its info to figure out a good match for you.

You'll find warm water and seafood just about anywhere. But some parts of some islands will be closer to sites for bodysurfing, or other activities, if you want those.

Beyond that, you'll need to assess your budget, if you want to get out and about or hang out at your rental, if you care about things like restaurants and museums, etc.

The most beautiful Island is Kauai, Oahu will be a bit crowded, there's about a million people on it. Then There's Maui. Plenty off beaches to swim, boogie and snorkel. Napili! Napili Kai.

That's hard to say. They all have beautiful beaches. Oaho, of course, has the most going on in terms of restaurants, shopping, nightlife, etc. But Maui is beautiful and you can do the tour around the island, which is spectacular. Some people love the big island of Hawaii for a pure nature experience. See what's available on VRBO- it might be a lot cheaper to stay somewhere other than Oahu or Maui.
