They stopped throwing out posts that were against the rules (obscene, adult material, insulting other users, etc.) This encouraged 'a certain element' to live out their trolling fantasies. A lot of people just aren't mature enough to use an open, anonymous forum, it just brings out the 4-year-old in them.
In fact ALL open forums on the Internet have a certain 'signal to noise ratio', a lot of people who just want to attract attention or get people riled up. Sadly there are a lot of desperately lonely alienated cowards in the world who think this kind of 'vandalism' is fun. It's a bigger problem now here, but it was always a problem. There used to be 'moderated' forums but apparently nobody does that anymore.
