Ok, so a triangle has a base that is 4 inches shorter than the height . The area of the triangle is 60 square. What are the dimensions?

I think I did it to this point right h^2 -4h-120 but I cant get nice numbers out of this.

    2A = h(h - 4)

    h(h - 4) = 120

    h^2 - 4h - 120 = 0

    Solutions:

    h = 2 - 2 sqrt(31))

    h = 2 (1 + sqrt(31))

    (1/2)(h-4)(h)=6, where h=height, h-4=base.

    expand, multiply, 2, get

    h^2 - 4h - 12 = 0

    (h+2)(h-6) = 0

    h=6 (other root is negative so not meaningful here)

    So height is 6 inches and base is 6-4=2 inches.

    60 = (1/2)(h-4)h

    h^2-4h-120 = 0

    h = [4±√496]/2

    h = [4±4√31]/2

    h = 2+2√31

    h ≈ 13.14 in

    base ≈ 9.14 in
