How to create drop shadow in gimp for picture that's white?

I have been reading and seeing videos and all say to use the Fuzzy Select Tool, but since the picture is completely white, then the object itself gets in the fuzzy selection.

You can lower the threshold of for the fuzzy match and choose the contiguous region tool.

If you have to lower it so much that it leaves holes in the middle, you can usually deal with those by growing the selection by a few pixels then shrinking back the same number.

If you still have small dots outside, you can remove most of those by shrinking first then growing back.

Either of those will round off corners in the selection, so use the smallest grow/shrink size that works to minimize rounding.
