Can you be sensitive/allergic to portobello mushrooms but not white button?

I know that portobello mushrooms are just mature white button (so like same species). For some reason whenever I eat portobello mushrooms I start feeling really sick, but it never happens with the immature white button mushrooms. Is it all in my head or is this possible? (to be sensitive to the adult form of a food but not the juvenile form)?

As a species matures the chemical composition changes. There could be a specific alkaloid, or protein present in the adult fungus that either doesn't exist or is sparsely present in the juvenile form.

If you experience an allergic reaction then it's best to stay away from that food. The condition could become exacerbated to the point where you also become allergic to the white button mushrooms too.

It could be you are sensitive to the mature spores which would logically be much more common the in portobello.
