Why do we use a dye (Bradford reagent) to help determine the protein concentration?

The dye (Bradford reagent) reacts with the protein to produce a color (blue) which is then readily detected by a colorimeter/spectrophotometer, and can be easily quantified. This allows one to measure the amount of protein in an unknown sample by comparing it to a series of standard protein samples.
