In the fall, go around the neighborhood and collect items from nature. Our neighbors have sweet gum trees, which make a nice wreath. So do pine cones.

Pretty leaves make a nice table decoration, learn how to preserve them.

Go to www. pinterest and look around there, lots of activities that use items from around the house to make things with.

Cooking or baking needs to be done anyway, so go online for new or familiar recipes and learn to cook.

Stamp collecting and herb ology. Neither cost much to start but can get expensive if you really get into them. One is just taking stamps or envelopes the other is pressing flowers and leaves no real cost until you get into old issues and albums or rare and exotic plants.

Every hobby requires some degree of money, it just depends on what sort of things you need for said hobby, they can be as cheap or expensive as you make it. Sorry this doesn't seem helpful but it's the best answer I've got.

Studying animal and plant life you can see within walking distance. All you need is paper and something to write with (which you should already have) to record and later keep track of your findings.

Cooking. You're already buying groceries and need to eat anyway. Try different foods and cooking styles and you don't HAVE to spend any more than you already do.

Pick any subject that interests you and focus on it, learn as much as you can about it, write notes about it. This can go beyond mere ordinary reading or watching television - which are not hobbies in and of themselves, though many people incorrectly claim they are. You can make and keep scrapbooks on your favorite subject using discarded materials. Old magazines, newspapers, even many books are available for free. Check your loacl Craigslist's 'Free' section sometime.

There are a lot of things you can do that require no money, or very little. The problem with most people is that they think of these things as boring and never consider them.
