Why do so many americans believe that europeans are not allowed to own guns?

i mean even if so (the UK example comes to mind) They have strict gun laws because the majority thinks thats a good idea. (but they won´t have it if many people would beliveve in guns)

But thats just one country so why do many americans still believe that europeans dont own guns?

Update:

again JEFF

Absolutely wrong. Most people in europe can perfectly legal own all kind of guns in europe. Ok i agree most don´t but thats more a voluntary thing.

its absolutely not illegal for example to walk into the next gun shop and go home with a rifle 10 minutes later,,,

Many Americans believe that Canadians aren't allowed to own guns. If they don't know that about the country right next door, why would they know it about a place that's across an ocean? Many Americans know very little about any but their own country.

    I don't know. Europeans aren't my concern.

The number of Europeans who do own guns is a negligible quantity.

In the UK they have 6.6 guns per 100 residents, in the US 112.6 guns per 100 residents. (Wikipedia)

That's why there is hardly any gun violence in Europe.

Because most of them don't because they are not allowed

I think it's because we dont hear about gun violence and street crime much over there.
