How can you learn Japanese Kanji?

I've learned Hiragana and am going to work on Katakana, but how does one learn what the different Kanji mean?

Store bought flash cards are the best. Somewhat expensive, but worth it for the serious student.

They present kanji in the order Japanese school children learn them, organized by radical (often gives clues to meaning. a radical may be a kanji itself, but not always).

They provide stroke order, all possible meanings and pronunciations, with examples, and use of the kanji to make larger words.

You can easily group the cards into different piles, based on how much time you need to spend on them. You can easily shuffle them to sharpen your memory.

You have to say them, listen to them, read them, and write them. Make comparisons, categorize, etc. Make as many connections in your head as possible. That facilitates any kind of long-term memory. Go from Japanese to English and vice versa.

    Good luck

    (Please excuse my poor English)

Those who are in the first grade at elementary school in Japan must remember only 80 Kanji.

Even high school students in Japan take a Kanji test.

In short, it's difficult for Japanese to remember Kanji.

I'm Japanese so let me show you how Japanese remember Kanji.

First of all, you remember the stroke order of Kanji.

Second, you remember how to read it.

(Most of the Japanese students know what Kanji means if it's written in Hiragana.)

Third, you write Kanji many times.

Remembering 2Kanji per day was homework when I was an elementary school student.

    Thank you for reading :)
