Is it legal for my boss to ask me about filing unemployment?
I am unfortunately in a bad situation right now where my boss has cut my hours down to nothing. I filed unemployment two days ago and she is an extremely confrontational woman.
Is it legal or ok for her to try to question me about filing unemployment? I'm thinking no. Is it any of your boss' business if you file?

It is absolutely their business. They pay into it and the claim will be filed against the company. She is not confrontational asking you about it. In fact, if you take attitude with her, it would not surprise me if she fired you. The unemployment office ALWAYS checks with the employer as to the reason you were laid off and the employer has a right to deny the claim.

Of course she can question you about it, because it certainly IS her business. Who do you think pays unemployment benefits? Your employer does.

Of course it is because your previous job will have to contribute to the unemployment benefits you receive.

Anyone can ask you anything about anything. you do not have to answer but they will find out about it anyway.

I wouldn't tell her anything.

If she cut your hours, you have a right to file. She will be notified to verify how many hours you actually work. Don't bother lying, because she will find out.

sometimes they like to know why employees are leaving. if you say it's because they're cutting your hours, maybe the'll give some back. otherwise, it's your business, just politely say "sorry, but it's a personal matter".
