carbene chemistry ...singlet or triplet...help ?

explain why carbene (A) does not react with cyclohexene in a manner of ordinary carbenes but does react with dimethyl fumarate (B) and maleate (c) to yield spiropentanes (D)

    The question seems to only want the two spiro addition products. These will have cis and trans ester substituents.

    On further thought, I'll bet that two spiro cycllopropanes are just too strained to exist. So it wont react with cyclohexene.
