Everyone gets a different prescription because everyone's eyes are different. That's why you have an eye exam when getting eye glasses. It's like going to a hospital. Not everyone who walks into the hospital is going to walk out with a prescription for Viagra. Only the people doctors have examined and been determined to need Viagra are given the prescription for Viagra. Everyone else is given what the doctors think they need.

An eye exam is done to determine exactly what YOU need. Every person can have very different eye issues and every person that has prescription eye glasses has lenses that are made to correct their specific issues.
In fact, the same person can actually have a different strength lens for each eye. My vision is not exactly the same in each eye, so one of my lenses is stronger than the other.

The prescription is based on the problems with your vision.
Often you don't even get the same prescription for each eye on one person.

Everyone gets their own prescription. You go to the eye doctor and they tell you what you need to get and each eye can be different.
If you simply need reading glasses, you can pick those up at a drug store with seeing a doctor and they come in different powers depending on how bad your eyesight is.
