Muhammad was rich. Muslims believe that rich people are more holy than poor people.
Muslims believe that if a man is rich, it is because God is rewarding them for their virtues and if a man is poor it is because God is punishing them for sinning.

Because we Muslims should pray towards the Kaaba as the house of Allah on this earth in Mecca as instructed by Allah in the Qur'an and to follow the way of praying of Muhammad pbuh
