There are online courses/vpcertificates, but you still HAVE TO register with a state so you can legally marry people.

In the USA you can become an officiant on line and legally marry a couple, you would need to look at your state's law
My daughter and her husband were married by their friend. My friend's daughter had her aunt as their officiant

Depends where you are in the world - while some US states allow this, most countries don't.

No, not in most states anymore. It's not illegal to do that online ordination thing, however, jurisdictions have changed their rules in most places so that in order to marry someone the minister has to have a physical address from which they perform regular services to real parishioners. Saying you are a minister, showing them the certificate and saying you have services out of your house won't get around the law changes.
Some places are now allowing a friend or relative to register to perform a single marriage on a particular date. It's a special certification for a single wedding and has nothing to do with being a minister of any kind.
Check with your local courthouse before attempting to go this route. Being ordained online started as a joke thing and a ha ha way to get around the laws on who can legally officiate a marriage. Laws vary. It doesn't take much to become a Notary Public and they can legally officiate in many places.
