My best friend celebrated her birthday party this Monday but one of our friends wasn t able to attend. Now, this friend has invited me , my best friend and some other people to her place on this Sunday to make up for the loss. My father , doesn t support this getting together thing and is not allowing me to go there. He says that we need to visit a family member who is seriously ill.
What should I do? What should I say to my friends? Call off the plan at the last minute?

Of course you go visit your seriously ill family member. And you just say to your friends that you need to visit a seriously ill family member.

What you should do is tell your friend, today, that you will not be able to attend because you have to go visit a family member who is seriously ill.

you should tell them the truth, that you need to go visit a sick family member and maybe try to re-schedule or something if you all really want to hang out all together. I'm sure they will understand although it sucks.
