no one is going to mars this century , it is way beyond us technically and financially , 40% of unmanned craft have failed and a manned mission is massively more complex, to do any space exploration someone has to invent a means of propulsion that is powerful and economic , nuclear is a non starter , even nuclear bombs don't work in space

We dont have the technology to mass colonize mars. We might get away with a few people on a base like the ISS. Mars is very inhospitable to human life. A very thin atmpsphere and the planets soil the iron oxide rust is self sterilizing.
The bottom line is COST. because once you vuild a little colony of say 8 people you have to send regular missions to it with food and water an med. Everthing needed to live. And that costs money. Somewhere into the billions. Maybe even a trillion dollars a month so 8 astronauts cpuld live on mars. America? Wpuld never spend that kind of money, but if it were india russia china combined maybe it could happen.
Turning the whole planet into a place where billions live wont happen in our lifetimes! A thousand years? Maybe.
