Can anyone answer my social security and income tax question?

In 2018, does my tax preparer need a social security benefit verification letter or any other social security documents from me?

He or she will need the Form SSA-1099 that you will receive from the Social Security Administration in January of 2018.

The award letter is not proof of what you received; it only advises you of whether you were approved or not and what your benefit level will be for the year.

All they need is the Form SSA-1099 showing the amount of Social Security benefit you were paid.
