I have to get a physical exam and my ins. does not cover it. They said it would be 185 dollars plus labs. Is this reasonable? Thanks!?

My family doctor charges less than $100 for an office appointment, but most doctors could charge based on where you are located to be more/less.
Years ago, when my late husband had crappy insurance since he had a pre-existing condition, that (if/when) he saw a doctor and they stated you need an MRI, or labs etc, then would state to the doctor, (IS) this really needed, since my insurance won’t cover, and I have to pay (myself) out of pocket. In many cases, then the doctor would say no, not needed.
The assumption is, if you have insurance it will cover or pay, thus the doctor orders tests etc to (cover) the doctor “just in case” for malpractice purposes.
I have a great PCP who informed us that Meijer was giving free Lipitor that my husband needed for his high cholesterol that most pharmacies would charge up to $100 a month. She also sent me to our hospital, (huh) for my lab tests. I had to pay $65 for blood tests (cash) that a few years back cost me over $400 that was sent to a lab and not covered by my insurance.
Even today, since I now have good insurance, but a high deductible, so when/if I see my doctor, I ask, is this test needed or not. And if so, is there a cheaper way to get it since (I) will be paying out of pocket.
Doctors treat you since that is what they do. But you need to ask if all the labs they want are required or not, since (YOU) will be paying yourself. If in fact the ChampVA won’t cover, then you need to call 1st and verify how much they will bill you for the care.

All US plans written since Obamacare are required to have a free annual physical included in the plan. It covers some screenings but not all. Look at your health insurance policy to see what they actually cover. It is possible that your doctor is not part of your plan's network, in which case you would have to cover the entire cost.

With labs, yes that is reasonable
but why won't your ins cover it...are you dealing with a deductible?
