I'm surprised at the people saying there is no point. A lot of times, areas such as Afghanistan are extremely dangerous, and most Google employees are not going to risk their life just so they can snap a pretty little view of the road. Other times, areas over difficult terrain cannot be easily reached, and therefore, not photographed. And, lastly, the fact that there is little demand. Most people are not traveling over the Saharan desert on a regular basis, for instance. I'm sure in the future, as technology continues to improve, more of these "blank" areas will be filled in.

Because there is little to no point.

There's a job for you. Contact Google and tell them you would be willing to go to those places, rent a car, and drive up and down all the roads, and then ask them how much they would pay you to do that. If you're game, I'm sure they are. The only reason it's not done is they haven't had anyone willing to do it.
