    Não perde, só depois de um tempo o aplicativo não funciona mais, porque o aplicativo vai ficando obsoleto.

    Por isso é bom atualizar de vez em quando.

    Não, elas permanecerão intactas. Também é bom atualizar para evitar que hackers tentem ler suas conversas caso queiram, nunca se sabe.
