Will the school district I work for most likely save my job if I request a leave of absence?

I currently work full-time (with benefits) as an assistant teacher. I only have my Associates degree but at some point I am going to need to student teach which means leave work for abut five months. I don t mind being unpaid for 5 months but will they likely save my position for me? Has anyone else been in the same boat? Thanks.

Rules vary from district to district, and the answer might depend on the specific situation of your job. The best way to get a reliable answer is to visit the personnel department in the district offices, explain the details, and ask what you can do to protect your position. They'll gladly tell you the procedure.
