is it ok / normal to permanently weld my trailer receiver tube to the ball mount?

currently the ball mount is removable by taking out a pin. The ball mount makes a lot of noise as it moves around inside the receiver tube. I figured I could add a weld across the top of the connection point to stop the noise and it would also be less likely to get stolen. If i ever want to remove it I would just need to grind off the weld. is there any reason not to do this?

drill a hole weld a nut on the outer tube and put a bolt in it don't drill the inner tube of course so the bolt tightens the neck up so it doesn't rattle plenty of trucks are like this from the factory go and have a look at a Toyota or a Nissan tow bar

The mount is easily removed when not in use. The weld will crack when you pull a trailer anyway.

That is not a problem. Just leave the pin in, better yet use a bolt and nut so it can never fall out. I never use just the pin, always a bolt with a lock nut. Then welding the tube to the receiver ? No problem at all. Hitches used to be all one piece like that before receivers became common. But don't just put a bead along the top. It will prob crack. Put a bead on 2 sides at least. .

A REALLY DUMB IDEA! If you're worried about someone stealing your hitch, just REMOVE IT from the receiver and stow it under your seat or in a locked tool box. That should solve your rattling problem too.

The car would fail an MOT if the trailer can't be easily removed.
