GPU hotter after reformatting?

I recently had to reformat due to a couple errors. Before I did so, I played Skyrim and had around a temperature on my GPU from 70-80 on average. After my reformat, my temperature is hitting 95-105C?

What's causing this? I've updated all my drivers and should have the exact same settings for the game.

Update:

I would if I could GOD DAM figure out how to change the category before asking the question.

Is it dusty? Is the fan going bad?

It could also be that formatting cleared off junk that was slowing down the CPU and it is now letting the game run faster, which is then putting a heaver load on the GPU.

Still, overheating means something is going wrong with the cooling system, not a software issue.

one of your fans may not be operating the way it should in your case and not blowing out the air even though you probably didnt open the case or move wires around. another thing might be that you had some sort of setting that made the fan spin faster relating to some software dedicated to the card and now that you have wiped the os.. it may have gotten rid of that so called software that monitors and adjust the fan speed and the temperature of the card

maybe your pc has got a bit quicker and a bit better at shifting data so the frame rates are up most people dont complain about that. or maybe you havnt configured the game yet or the audio and maybe you are using hdmi audio which adds a data payload. or maybe you have the screen in higher pixel depth(much more work) or perhaps lower pixel depth which means faster frame rates. not a very good test you are doing.

  • Have you installed the DirectX Drivers that are required?

One other thing is ya card might be going out, or have you tried cleaning it since ya last time, i know some ppl never bother 2 an it causes alot of problems especially after a fresh install.
