Politics: Can someone who is a pro-life Christian, explain why human beings are not "entitled" to healthcare as a right?

I think most people are in agreement that everyone should have access to good healthcare. When the government, strict regulations, lawsuits, and insurance companies get involved, this is where complication stems from.

Where to begin? ... perhaps with the extreme cost of health care. "Oh those doctors and their high salaries!" Well, with working an average of 60 hours a week and having to pay off $150,000 in student loans and on top of that, pay on average $10-20,000 per year in malpractice insurance, it kind of makes sense that an office visit can run $100-$200. The doctor isn't getting all of that, btw.

Then there are the people who go to the emergency room for every little thing, including seasonal allergies and the common cold. And not because they are having complications from said illness, but simply to see a doctor, perhaps because their insurance doesn't cover office visits. So now we are looking at a $1000+ bill for the sniffles when staying in bed and eating a can of chicken soup could have done the trick.

Or, the person who doesn't take care of themselves against the doctor's instructions... perhaps eating unhealthy with heart disease, drinking too much with liver disease, eating too many carbs with diabetes, taking drugs, not exercising, etc. this all causes health problems.

Then there is equipment, research, lawsuits (the doctor or hospital gets the lawsuit even if it's a technician who messed up), settlements, etc.

So the question isn't "don't people deserve health care." Of course they do! But it's not as simple as that.

Can you walk up to a person that is already working 60 hours a week and demand that they work more and do it for free? What other profession would you see that? Is that person now a slave to the governemnt's demands simply because they chose (and worked extremely hard to become) a doctor, nurse, or other healthcare provider? Can you force them to work double a normal work week and not compensate them at all for it?

What about hospital costs... exams, equipment, tests, labs, etc. all cost a lot of money. Research, FDA approval, regulations, etc all cost a lot of money. And it's a good thing we have it, too. Yes, it increases the cost of things, but if we didn't have it, we could end up like people I knew (children I knew) in a country with socialized medicine who were infected with HIV because the hospital tried to save money by reusing needles.

So the question is, where does this money come from? If you think that counties with socialized medicine have it so great, think again. I lived for a few years in a country with socialized medicine and I was terrified of the health care system. I could tell you horror stories of what I witnessed, but this post is already getting long. Socialized medicine promises a lot of things... you will get all the health care you need. "Need." Need is a funny word. Technically, you don't need novicane or any pain relief while getting your teeth pulled or drilled into. Technically, one doesn't "need" to turn their neck if they have been severely injured in an accident. Surgery is an unnecessary luxury for them. Anesthetic is a luxury, didn't you know?

Oh, but that could never happen here, right? Wrong. The subtleties have already begun. It's starts innocuously enough so that people don't notice... but if you look carefully, you will the degradation that exists already and is getting worse.

So yes, everyone deserves to have medical treatment if it is available. The perfect system would be that everyone would contribute and help each other out... a "go fund me" of sorts where neighbor helps neighbor. Insurance companies are for-profit. The government is for-profit and wastes millions of tax dollars on unnecessary and downright wasteful spending, that's another post.

In short, the government should not be the one regulating health care coverage because it never ends well. But when people begin to speak out against socialized or government run health care, people stop listening, throw out all reason, don't pay attention to the facts and accuse them of "not wanting the poor, sick children to have access to health care," when that's not the case at all. Sure, there are the crazy few who are so hard-hearted that they really care less, but most people from any political platform, believe that health care for all is a necessity.

There are FAR better ways, albeit difficult to set into motion, of granting health care to all than socialized and government-regulated medicine. Socialized systems work in opposition to good health care and we have history and current countries with socialized medicine to prove it.

Probably not. They're focused on their own wallets., or purses.. They don't grasp the concept that humans are supposed to be looking out for each other, by Jesus's own words. They select the most convenient (and cheapest) passages from the New Testament, and apply it mercilessly.

Jesus gave the blind sight, and healed lepers, without expecting payment. He also went after the hypocrites and moneychangers who were using the Holy Temple to make a quick shekel.

I'm not a pro-life Christian, but human beings are not entitled to healthcare as a right because healthcare costs money, and someone has to pay for it.

how can you have a right, that forces someone else to do something ?

    some areas have no doctors

so if people have this so called right

then should the government be able to force doctors to locate there ?

if there are not enough doctors, should the government force people to be doctors ?

Read our Constitution and Declaration of Independence. There is no mention of health care or health insurance. You are trying to create a right that never existed.

Liberals believe men have a right to pee in the ladies room.

Unless you're completely not paying attention, the majority of people pay for insurance. And given that is true, then why should others who have enough money to pay for their own insurance, or healthy enough to work, pay nothing. Besides, their is nothing within the Constitution that says its a right.

    Guess Not...

Everyone knows pro-life is more about having a supply of 100 people for every low paying job & having babies up for adoption because some woman didn't want to ruin her body though.

You're entitled to all the healthcare you want but you aren't entitled to to have someone pay your way.
