Windows Defender only defends against malware that will harm your computer, nothing more. It does not block or nutralise malware that spam you (low end malware). Because Microsoft is in bed with a lot of the producers of them it deliberately ignores them. Its sole perpose is to stop damage that stops your computer from running correctly, nothing more. The free and paid for security programs does exactly the same but goes one step further, they protect your enjoyment of using your computer by killing the spamming infectious stuff, like bots or the crap that programs like to sneak under the radar during install.
If you want a secure and safe computer Windows Defender will do. If you want a safe and secure experience with no popups or spam all over your web browser then go elsewhere. The link below is an example of the problem

Hello!
Geek Squad recommends that no matter what OS you're running you choose an antivirus solution to compliment that system. Both IOS devices and Windows OS devices are vulnerable to attacks now, and we strongly encourage everyone to have a solution that protects against malware, viruses, spyware, phishing, and a host of other issues.
Windows 10 comes with Windows Defender built in as a safety measure, but it is not as robust or as comprehensive as an antivirus solution such as MalwareBytes, Webroot, Trend, Avast, or Kaspersky.
Consider what you are doing when you are online. Are you doing mostly basic surfing or browsing? Do you buy/sell/trade? Are you visiting unsafe sites in your free time? Many legitimate sites have advertising linked to questionable sites hidden or embedded in various pieces of paid content throughout the site. You may find yourself on an unsafe site without even noticing it.
We recommend that you compare your Antivirus choices. You can check out sites such as CNET, or PCMag.com to see reviews and chose an option from the top 3 or top 5 that suits your needs.
BestBuy has several AV options available at https://gslink.us/L0E1HNPy -- stop by and see what options we are recommending as well.

It has its own antivirus, but I would still comsider using an additional software such as avira, just for the extra safety.

I highly recommend that you get a supplemental anti-virus other than Windows Defender and if you take the risk of playing any cracked software you will pay the price sooner or later. The people that go about cracking software don't do all that work for free it's a lure to get you to download the software so that the person that cracked it has access to your computer that is simple and plain.
Cracked software is a trap to get you to walk into it and unfortunately millions of people do exactly that and spread viruses and malware all over the freaking internet

I use Windows Defender and so far, it's been a pretty great program. Though getting Malwarebytes would be a good idea.
