Is something true because it's written down in a book?

I have to ask, because Christians seem to claim this is how facts work. Funny how they don't apply the same "logic" to the other religions, eh? You'd almost think they were being dishonest...

Not at all. Anything that claims to be true must be proven to be true, which the Bible has.

If a something written by the author God cannot be validated by objective science because we either cannot examine it or it is above nature, the character of God can be used to validate that, even though we cannot know, for example--that we will live forever in either Heaven or Hell.

The Muslims claim its true because it's written in their book.

Mormons claim its true because it's written in their book.

Jews claim its true because it's written in their book.

And of course, Christians have their book too. So being in a book alone doesn't make it true.

So what make it true? Science has its own methods of determining facts and these can be applied to test the religious books. However none of these books would ever claim to be science books, or to reduce themselves to materialistic empiricism. So much of it proof may simply be true because people find them subjectively inspirational. If it works for them, and gives meaning and purpose to their lives, then that subjective experience makes it true.

Religion is the ultimate controller in what you think, do, and say. It is still with us because of religions extra strong history of violence and genocide.

You have your beliefs, i have mine. The problem is every time yours meets mine your religion tries to kill me.

It is the backbone of the contempt i have for all religions.

God's word is true, whether written down or not.

How does your "funny logic" apply to that?

According to christian "logic" Spiderman is true, because "it is written".

Almost nothing on earth makes less sense than religion.

Their logic falls like the house of cards it is made from.

I was brought up Catholic. When we area little we are filled with play. The teachings colored my world, like pages in a coloring book. The stories they told were interesting, we were never taught or told that the stories were factual. So, it isn't about evidence but about coloring people's world. People choose to believe because its comfortable for them. Truth seekers, on the other hand, have to admit time and again they are wrong and that is too painful for most people. It depends on what matters to you.

Truth is eternal. If you lie, that which you lie about will vanish, but the fact that you lied is true and forever.

It's fact because it becomes real.
