The topic is whether minimum wage should be raised. I'm arguing no.What challenging questions can I ask my opponent, who is for raising it?

Update:

I do not know too much about this topic and the economic/ political aspects of it. I'm not really sure what I could ask my opponent. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you

I think what you have to look into is what is exactly is he arguing for.

An across the country raise to $15 hour?

    That's hard to support.

It might be a more than adequate wage in parts of Mississippi, but in places like Seattle it doesn't go that far.

What is the goal with minimum wage?

It used to be a chance for teenagers to gain some work experience.

Now it seems that it's supposed to support a person living on their own, or sometimes even a family.

Something is out of whack with the economy, it is unrealistic to expect that fast food restaurants and entry level retail jobs should fix this.

The reason you're having trouble is because you haven't done any research. You're not supposed to answer such questions off the top of your head. You're supposed to research: what happens when the head of a typically-sized family earns only minimum age; what happens to a community and to businesses when the minimum wage is raised; how much would the minimum wage have to be raised to make a significant difference in the family's ability to support itself; how much would the minimum wage have to be raised before it has an adverse affect on a business; when a business is forced to raise wages, what steps does a business take to compensate for the extra expense... and so on.

    Do the research.
