Despite the general paranoia of the 24 hour news cycle, violent crime rates lower than for most of the past 50 years.

No. It's not safer, and it's not more dangerous. It's just more irritating. I finally got over my fear of heights and decided maybe it would be nice to fly. It would sure be faster, and sometimes I see airline tickets for the same price as bus tickets. Sometimes they are even cheaper than bus tickets. Then I think about how much flying has changed since the 80's, which is the last time I've flown. I think about the possibility of some disgusting TSA agent trying to pat down one of my children. And I think maybe I'll just rent a car or something. And the thing is, it's not making us any safer at all. Journalists have done investigations where they were still able to get a gun past TSA. If someone wanted to, they could still hijack an airplane. I could think of lots and lots of ways to easily kill a large amount of people. Unless the government wants to take away all of our freedoms, it will still be easy to commit a terrorist act. So then how are we safer? The fact is, the government cannot protect us from every danger. With life comes daily risks. That's a fact that will never change. But instead of helping people to come to terms with that, the government fear mongers and makes everyone very scared and look up to them to help them, to the point of being willing to give up rights and dignities. To the point of being okay with some slimy jerk patting down their daughter. To the point of men standing around allowing another man to feel their junk in public. How psychologically scarred are we to be okay with this sort of thing, all so we can feel safe? This is ridiculous.

We still can't stop a hijacked airliner from flying into Manhattan's skyscrapers

Yes
The terrorist events on the homeland are domestic since 911. It's really difficult to stop a US citizen f/ committing the terrorism. We've tightened security since 911 which helps prevent foreign terrorism on the homeland.
We have to use common sense when we project how much terrorism has been prevented f/ the changes since 911 in addition to what we know has been foiled.

The doom and gloom righties are the likely people to think America is more dangerous because they voted for trump's platform to ban Muslims. But the facts don't bear this out. America has a domestic terrorism problem and it's a safer place against foreign terrorism since 911.

Of course not, thanks to Obama and his Muslim Brotherhood lodge members. He apologized to the world for America.
